Our Story

About HCI Resources

HCI Resources Proprietary Limited is a junior mining company with the purpose of mining coal resources to sell to local and export markets. HCI Resources is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited (HCI).

Palesa Coal Mine

Located 37km north of Bronkhorstspruit, Palesa forms part of the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality and borders Nkangala Township within the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. Palesa was granted the mining rights over portions of the farm Loopspruit 435 JR by the Department of Mineral Resources in June 2008.

Production began in 2009 with the initial supply of 4 653 tons to Eskom. In 2014, the Department of Minerals and Resources granted another mining right over portions of the farms Rooipoort 440 JR.

SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT

Khuphukani Primary School learners educational visit to Palesa Coal

Friday, 17 May 2024, Palesa Coal hosted 38 learners from Khuphukani Primary School, Tweefontein on an educational visit to the mine. According to the curriculum for Grade 5 Social Sciences, learners are supposed to learn about “minerals and mining in South Africa” for TERM 4. The learners were provided with an overview of the topics they deal with such as minerals in South Africa’s rocks, kinds of mining methods, coal mines, mining and environment, risks of mining to people’s health, career opportunities in mining.
